Teach Like a Champion (Sikeston School District)
This is my 5th year in the Sikeston school district and I absolutely love it! I taught 3rd grade my first year in the Sikeston School District and then moved to 2nd grade to teach 4 years ago. I teach math, reading, science, social studies, grammar, and writing. I enjoy being a 2nd grade teacher and working with all my beautiful 2nd grade students. I also, enjoy helping you as a parent and encouraging you along the way as we work together to help your child become a successful student.
I was a substitute teacher in the Jackson School system for about 10 years. I loved being a sub so much I enrolled at Southeast Elementary in Cape Girardeau to finish my degree in teaching. I graduated in May of 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis on Special Education. I have worked with students from kindergarten – high school since I was a senior in high school through my church work. I love working with students and watching them grow in knowledge and become the best person they can be.
I have been married for 39 years to my best friend Bob Houchins. We were blessed with 4 beautiful children Jeremy, Joel, Jared, and Jenna. Our oldest son is a P.E. Coach in St. Louis, our 2nd and 3rd sons are both contractors, and our daughter Jenna is a NICU nurse in St. Louis. We have 2 beautiful daughters-in-law (Jamie & Grace) and 6 grandchildren (Leah Rose, Drew, Jacob, Clara Mae, Lincoln, Samuel). We also have a fur baby named Allie who keeps us busy and laughing at all of the funny things she does.
In my free time, I love to read, decorate our home, crochet, sew, paint, thrift shop with my daughter and hang out with my family and friends. I enjoy traveling with my husband and visiting my family in Louisiana and Arkansas during the summer.
