5th Grade ELA/Social Studies Teacher
I graduated from Sikeston High School in 2001. I went on to attend Southeast Missouri State University, where I graduated in 2006 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with an Emphasis in Language and Literature. From there, I continued my education at SEMO and earned my Master’s Degree in 2009 in Reading.
This is my 14th year teaching for Sikeston Public Schools. This is my second year teaching 5th grade at the 5th and 6th Grade Center. I am teamed up with Miss Politte, and I teach ELA (English Language Arts) and Social Studies to our 2 classes.
Prior to teaching at the 5th and 6th Grade Center, I taught for 12 years at Matthews Elementary. I taught 4th, 1st, and 2nd grade during my time there.
I married my husband, Joey, in June of 2011. We have 2 children...our daughter is an 8th grader and our son is in 5th grade. We spend most of our weekends at softball tournaments (our daughter plays travel softball) and rodeos (our son rides steers and mini bulls). When not at a rodeo or tournament, we are in the woods hunting and camping. We have 2 cats, Klaus and Jax. We also live in the country where we have several mini bulls and steers.
When I’m not teaching, I spend most of my time watching my kids do what they love, which is softball and rodeo. So I’m either at the softball field, a rodeo arena, or just in our backyard watching my daughter practice ball or my son ride one of our steers or mini bulls in our arena we have at our house. Additionally, my family all loves to hunt and fish, so when we can, we like to head off to the deer woods and spend weekends camping and hunting. Finally, I love to read and try to do that as often as I can, when I’m not busy with everything else! :)
