AcademicReading Coach
I am a 1989 Sikeston High School graduate. Go Bulldogs! I then attended Southeast Missouri State University where I graduated in 1993 with my first degree and in 2001 with my second degree. I am now back at Southeast Missouri State to further my education again!
I have both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I am currently working on my certification for Reading Specialist.
During my years teaching, I am proud to say that I was among the first teachers in the state of Missouri to be included and trained in the National School Institute of Leadership training. It was an 18-month commitment that I attended 2 days a month. I have also been a part of our Professional Learning Community (PLC) leadership team and have received lots of training for this. I have taken part in many workshops that Sikeston Public Schools has provided among my years in teaching.
I started teaching at Southeast Elementary in 2001. However, I have been teaching with SPS since 1993. I love being a Bulldog! I started out with 1st graders and moved up to 2nd graders where I spent most of my teaching career. Last year I began a new endeavor as Southeast’s Reading Coach, and I love it! I get to work with all the students in the school at some point in the year and share my love of reading.
I am happily married to my husband, Ron, who has put up with being a teacher’s husband for 19 years now. We were married in 1997. We have 3 children….Alexus (23), Leyton, (14), and McKenna (12) and 2 grandsons….Zaylen (2) and ZaRon (1). Leyton will be a freshman football player this year, so I may have to post pictures of that soon! McKenna will be a seventh grade band member (proud mom pics of that too). We have one dog named Bailey who makes our home complete.
I love to read for enjoyment but rarely have the time. I love to watch movies with my family. I really enjoy doing anything that let’s me spend time with my family. Ron and I usually just do things that our kids and grandkids are doing. I do have 2 other weaknesses: chocolate and diet coke! I would love to travel but never have the time or money for that yet;maybe someday.
